Shillong, March 31 (IANS) Christians in Meghalaya Sunday joined their brethren the world over in celebrating Easter.
Cathedrals and other churches in the Christian-majority state were thronged by believers for the special mass and other celebratory events.
It was a day of coloured Easter eggs and buns all over the state.
Archbishop of Shillong Rev. Dominic Jala presided over the Easter mass at the Grotto Chapel in the Mary Help of Christians Cathedral here.
Pascal commemoration in many parishes was marked with candlelight processions and baptism of new-born.
Leaders of various political parties greeted Christians on the occasion.
In his message, Governor R.S. Mooshahary said Easter is all about hope and it signals the coming of spring.
"In the present world of increasing violence and enmities between people and nations, Easter should inspire all to imbibe the spirit of sacrifice and forgiveness that life of Jesus Christ symbolises," he said.
